The concept of asylum is old and traditional. Asylum is a Latin word. It is derived from the Greek word “Assyria.” The word Asylia indicates a sacred place.
Meaning of Asylum
When anyone is considered an offender of their state, s/he can apply to another country for their protection. So, asylum means getting shelter and protection given by another country in its territory when their own country suspects them as a convict.
An asylee (who takes asylum) can get various benefits from the sheltered country. The benefits are provided mainly in the form of vouchers, which cover some necessities. Different rates are depending on the living situation.
